Motel One, Aachen The first Motel One in Aachen will be built at numbers 6, 8 and 10 Kapuzinergraben, directly opposite the theatre. Once complete, it will be the largest hotel in the city with 259 rooms.

There will be two entrances to the building: the prestigious main entrance will be located on Kapuzinergraben itself. This is also where the bar will be situated, with a view of the theatre, whilst a secluded interior courtyard will provide an element of tranquillity. Many rooms will offer views of the theatre or of the art nouveau swimming baths on Elisabethstrasse where another entrance will be located.

An architectural design competition was launched for the facades in this sensitive location with regard to urban development as part of a multi-party commissioning process. The winning design came from Cologne-based architects Gatermann + Schossig.

The jury praised the skill with which the architects subtly made the historic structure of what has until now been a series of smaller properties legible on the modern facade.

The location, just a stone's throw from the cathedral, is not the only reason for siting a hotel here. Motel One has also recognised the great potential in the increasing number of overnight stays by non-local guests.

Dieter Müller, founder and CEO of Motel One, says of the new location in Aachen, "We are very pleased to be developing this central location in Aachen with Landmarken AG. It is an interesting hotel market and we are sure that we will be successful with Motel One and our budget lifestyle concept here, as in our other locations."
